Davis Underground Solutions, Inc.
Directional drilling, auger boring and utility installation across Georgia; locates, bore plan and permits handled. It's boring. But we dig it.
The line goes under, not through
Every utility that reaches a building in Fulton County has to get there underground, and the straight line from the main to the meter almost always runs under something expensive to cut: a street the city just resurfaced, a stamped driveway in Buckhead, a restaurant's only parking lot, a creek with a buffer, a row of oaks. A directional drilling crew sets a rig at one end, drills a steerable pilot hole under all of it, and pulls the pipe or conduit back through. The surface between the two pits is never opened. That is why developers, electricians, plumbers, fiber builders and utilities across the county ask for it.
What goes in the ground
- Fiber-optic conduit and drops for the carriers and builders wiring Fulton County.
- Electrical conduit: feeds, services, site lighting, EV charging circuits.
- Water services and mains under streets, driveways and creeks.
- Sewer force mains and laterals where the route crosses pavement or water.
- Gas mains and services to Atlanta Gas Light's standard.
- Steel casings for road, rail and MARTA crossings by auger boring when the permit asks for one.
Each has a page of its own: start with directional drilling, fiber optic cable drilling and auger boring, or pick a service from the list below.
What is under Atlanta
Fulton County is Piedmont: a few feet of red clay over saprolite, and under that the granite and gneiss that show at the surface as outcrops in the parks and the road cuts. North of the city the rock can be within reach of a shallow bore; along the Chattahoochee and the creeks it is deeper under alluvium. A crew that drills Atlanta every week carries the bit, the mud motor and the patience for it. The ground under an Atlanta street is as crowded as the street itself: water and sewer from the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management, Georgia Power duct banks, Atlanta Gas Light mains, MARTA conduit, traffic signal interconnect, and generations of telecom. A bore here is planned around the Georgia 811 marks and potholed where the locate is not enough.
Crossings and permits
Typical crossings are the Downtown Connector, I-285, GA 400 and I-20, Peachtree Road and Roswell Road, the MARTA lines, the Norfolk Southern and CSX corridors through Inman and Tilford yards, the Beltline, Peachtree Creek, Nancy Creek and the Chattahoochee, and the airport approach roads around Hartsfield-Jackson. Rights-of-way are permitted by the City of Atlanta Department of Transportation inside the city, Fulton County Public Works in the unincorporated county, each of the North and South Fulton cities on their own streets, GDOT District 7 on state routes and the interstates, MARTA along its corridors and the railroads (Norfolk Southern, CSX) on theirs.
The company behind this site
Davis Underground Solutions, Inc. is headquartered in Powder Springs, a short drive west of the Perimeter, so Fulton County is home territory: no mobilization fee, a site walk within days, and a crew that has already drilled the rock under Buckhead, the clay in Alpharetta and the fill around the airport. The company is known for answering the phone and showing up on the date it gave, which in this trade is most of the battle. Davis Underground Solutions has the equipment list and project photos. Everything submitted on this site, and every call to the number at the top, goes directly to the company. Estimates are free. Call now: (678) 264-3333.

Every drilling and boring service in Atlanta
Directional Drilling
Horizontal directional drilling (HDD): a steered bore between two small pits that puts conduit, pipe and cable under roads, driveways, parking lots and landscaping with no open trench.
Horizontal Drilling
Horizontal drilling for any line that has to cross something it cannot cut through: a street, a slab, a canal, a stand of trees. Entry pit, exit pit, nothing opened in between.
Directional Boring
Directional boring is the small-rig end of HDD: short, shallow bores for service lines, sleeves and conduit on residential and light-commercial lots.
Underground Drilling
Underground drilling for new utilities where the surface is spoken for: tracked, steered bores placed under whatever is already built on top.
Fiber Optic Cable Drilling
Fiber duct and drop conduit installed by directional drill for carriers, co-ops, campuses and developments: long shots along the right-of-way, short shots to the building.
Electrical Conduit Drilling
PVC and HDPE electrical conduit bored under pavement for primary feeds, secondary services, site lighting and EV charging circuits.
Underground Conduit Drilling
Single ducts and multi-duct bundles pulled through one reamed bore: communications, power, controls and spares placed together under the obstacle.
Structured Cable Drilling
Conduit between buildings for structured cabling, campus networks, security and controls, bored under courtyards, drives and parking rather than cut across them.
Utility Drilling
Utility drilling for water, sewer, gas, power and telecom owners: permitted road crossings, mains under live streets, services to the meter.
Communications Drilling
Communications conduit and cable placed by directional drill: telecom, cable TV, cell-site backhaul and private networks, under roads and lots.
Missile Boring
Missile boring (pneumatic piercing) drives a steel mole through the soil for short, straight, shallow runs under a driveway or sidewalk: the quickest way to sleeve a lawn or a walk.
Auger Boring and Drilling
Cased auger bores for road, highway and railroad crossings and for gravity sewer that has to hold an exact grade: a straight steel casing jacked from a pit.
Sewer, Water and Drain Lines
New water services and mains, sewer force mains and laterals, and storm drains installed under roads, driveways and yards without trenching them open.
Questions we hear in Atlanta
How far ahead do I need to book a bore in Atlanta?+
Small residential and commercial bores are usually scheduled within a week or two of the site walk; utility, rail and MARTA crossings follow the permit. Georgia 811 needs three business days' notice before any digging, including the pits, and that ticket is filed as part of the job.
Is there rock under Atlanta, and can you drill it?+
Yes and yes. Granite and gneiss change the bit and the daily footage, never whether the bore gets made.
Who pulls the permit for a street crossing?+
The contractor. City streets go through ATLDOT or the city in question, county roads through Fulton County Public Works, state routes through GDOT, and railroads and MARTA through their own processes.
Do you charge extra to come to Fulton County?+
No. The company is based in Powder Springs; Fulton County is home range, with no mobilization fee.
What does an estimate cost?+
Nothing. Estimates are free. Call (678) 264-3333 now, or describe the run in the form on this page; a reply comes within 24 hours.
